West Palm Beach, FL;

Evolution Karting Moroso FWT Wrap-UP
Spicer and Mathewson Score Podiums in Pro Shifter and Masters

Despite a flat tire in qualifying, Keith Spicer drove like a man possessed in the Saturday round of the Florida Winter Tour at Moroso Motorsports Park to capture second place in the Pro Shifter class.

Starting the heat last after getting no time in qualifying Spicer’s, crew had his CRG hooked up as he passed multiple cars on the first lap and slashed his way up to sixth position with brilliant late braking passes and making excellent use of his Swedetech Maxter power.

Starting in the 3rd row Spicer slotted in behind fellow CRG pilot Gary Carlton at the start and took 3 laps to dispatch Carlton and then got by Fritz Leesman and Danilo Dirani, who lead early, in successive laps. Only Jordy Vorrath remained in front of Spicer who gave chase and made up ground, but with tires abused coming from the back in the heat race, he could not catch Vorrath.

On Sunday, Spicer qualified sixth and finished 4th in the heat race, and had high hopes for a victory, but a broken gear dashed those hopes and the weekend for the Evolution Karting/DL Racing CRG pilot.

In Master’s Shifter, Kurt Mathewson was leading the class on Saturday when a water hose came off, dosing his tires with water sending him off track and out of the event. Sunday looked better with a 2nd place qualifying lap, but a broken chain in the pre-final forced him to start dead last in the Sunday final. With a excellent start and aggressive driving, Mathewson got his Swedetech powered Maxter to fifth place by lap 4 and got to second five laps late. Driving with abandon, Mathewson closed on the leader enough to attempt a last lap pass that was well defended by leader Gustavo Vidal, who would take the checkered flag first with Mathewson second, making it a 1-2 finish for CRG in Masters Shifter.

The next race for the Evolution Karting is the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup race at Lowes Motor Speedway, March 1st and 2nd. AJ Codalata will be piloting the team’s Grand Products Sponsored TOP-KART in the TAG class at the event. The next Florida Winter Tour event is at Ocala March 16.
