Indy Karting Series Report

New Evolution Karting team driver, Jason Lee began his defense of his Indy Kart Series Championship with win on his CRG chassis in the Shifter Class race at the Lafayette Square round of the IKS series April 27th in Indianapolis. AJ Codalata put his Top Kart chassis on the second step in Yamaha Medium narrowly missing a second win for the team.

Lee qualified on the pole for the Shifter class ahead of teammate Kurt Mathewson to make it an all Evolution Karting CRG front row. At the start, Lee got the holeshot and took the lead, which he would never relinquish. Mathewson got a poor start and fell back to fourth. It only took two laps for him to regain second and start to chase his teammate Lee. However three laps later brake problems led to a crash into a hay bale for Mathewson and ended the team’s hopes for a 1-2 finish. With his teammate out, Lee cruised to a large lead until backing off and cruising to the checkered flag.

In Yamaha Medium, AJ Codalata, running on a Top Kart Flash chassis barely missed the top spot on the grid and was very confident he had a strong kart for the race with his Evolution Karting built Yamaha motor. However at the start, Codalata fell to second as he struggled with low tire pressures and he fell back 10-12 kart lengths. As his tire pressures built up, AJ pulled back to the leader’s bumper, but ran out of laps to make a pass and finished second.
