Evolution Karting 2009 GLPS/Rotax Max Preview
With a tune-up in Florida already under their belt, the Evolution Karting race team “officially” opens their season this weekend at the
Krahl Construction Great Lakes Pro Series race at Newcastle Motorsports Park, one of the finest facilities for karting in the country and considered
the team’s home track. The team and the series have each grown and changed a little for 2009, hopefully for the better.
Evolution has
added several new drivers to go along with their returning members and the team will be multi-colored this year as they will run both their familiar
black CRG chassis, but also the blue Top-Kart chassis with multiple drivers in each brand.
Returning to the team to defend their previous GLPS
championships will be Kurt Mathewson, 2-time past Master’s Shifter class champion and Jason Lee, 2008 Stock Moto class champion. Mathewson and
Lee will both race Swedetech powered CRG chassis. In addition, Cole Mathewson will again race for the team but may miss a couple events due to
conflicts with his F2000 racing program. Also, team manager and another former Great Lakes champion, Garrick Miller, may compete in selected
events.
Headlining the newcomers to the team will be Kyle Wiegand, the current #1 ranked TAG driver in the country racing on a Top-Kart. Kyle
will be doing a number of races out of the Evolution trailer including GLPS and WKA events running in Rotax Senior and Tag Senior
categories.
Other newcomers to the team are Brooks Levy, returning to karting after a successful two-year battle with Crohn’s disease
and Cameron Smock moving up from the Cadet class. Both Levy and Smock will be running in the Rotax Junior division on Top-Kart chassis as will the
final newcomer to the team, Michael Goodyear who will compete in selected RMax events in Mini-Max.
The 2009 Great Lakes Pro Series has Shifter
and Tag classes as always, but has become an official Rotax Max Challenge Series, running all the Rmax classes within it’s program this year.
Evolution Karting, as a Rotax dealer and authorized Service Center plans race and try to qualify drivers for the Rotax Nationals in several
classes.
Evolution Karting is a dealer for Top-Kart and CRG Chassis, Rotax engines, MG and Bridgestone tires and Swedetech engines from a shop
in Indianapolis, IN. They also have a web store with a full line of chassis, parts and accessories that can be ordered online and shipped
nationwide.
